Making a new hand stamped necklace. Part 1. Designing.

Probably one of the most important steps in creating a new piece of jewelry is the first step. Coming up with a great design. How can you be sure that what your making will capture the eye of someone else. Well, the truth is that you can't be sure, it is often a bit of trial and error. But with a little research, inspiration, and common sense you should be able to introduce your new designs with some confidence. When it comes to research, look around on the internet and see what you can find. Just be careful, just because it is on the internet doesn't mean that people are buying it. Also, don't overdue this. After all you don't want to copy anyone. If you want to be unique and come up with your own ideas then just a little looking around may inspire some new thoughts. As for the inspiration. Many of us fine inspiration in very different ways. For me I might find it relaxing on the patio and sipping on a hot cup of coffee or sometimes an idea can come to me out of nowhere and I'm running for a piece of paper to right it down before I forget it. You can also be inspired by others. Friends, family and people interested in what you do can often come up with some wonderful ideas. Last but not least use a little common sense. Ask yourself, "would I buy it?"

For this post I am asking members of my facebook page to submit their ideas for a new design. If you would like to suggest an idea for a hand stamped necklace please leave me a comment. When a new design idea is decided upon, I will be posting the idea and be  moving on to part 2: Carving a hand stamped necklace. I will be adding pictures to show the process.
