Making a new hand stamped necklace. Part 5. Making a rubber mold.
Making a rubber mold of the silver piece is what will allow us to duplicate it. To do this I start with an aluminum frame.
By using slices of pre-cut rubber, I then pack the model into the frame.
Since this is a two piece design, I do it for each piece.
The mold frames are then placed between to aluminum plates.
And is placed into a vulcanizer which will apply heat and pressure to the rubber in order to cure it.
After the vulcanizing process I end up with two solid rubber molds.
I now need to remove the silver model by slicing through the rubber.
Once this is done I have two complete molds for the necklace design.
By using a wax injector I can fill the molds to create a wax duplicate of the piece.
Now we can go on to the next step. Casting the final piece.
